Every Friday the 13th since 1998, D. Striker has published RR, a zine that tackles Nashville’s past and present while throwing up a salute to revelry and crazy people. Past issues have given readers finger holes to fill to make Tammy Wynette’s legs, the history of the Kenny Rogers phone sex scandal, and a first-person account of a night out during “fan fair” with a Polaroid camera and a T-shirt with iron-on-letters, “I’ll take your photo for a beer.” Given the freakish publication schedule, Jim Ridley of the Nashville Scene called the zine, “A beast as elusive as the centaur or free beer night.” Each new issue of RR is celebrated with a release party where D. Striker performs with his long-time band. Country music historian, Robert K. Oermann once wrote of D. Striker’s music, “He can’t sing, but you can’t help listening.”

D. Striker will be accompanied by sets from Teddy and the Rough Riders, Zach Schmidt, and Matt Campbell.

Also, while this is going on in the back ballroom, the Front Bar will be featuring Friday Karaoke with a new twist. Starting last Friday and continuing tonight, a $50 cash prize will be awarded to the crowd’s favorite singer. Singing starts at 7:00 and the contest begins at 9:00. After eight weeks, the weekly winners will compete for $200 cash and a guitar!

Tonight Aaron Lee Tasjan will be setting the stage for Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear for the weekly Lightning 100 Nashville Sunday Night show. Madisen and Ruth Ward are a modern, soulful folk duo from Independence, Missouri.

I just spoke with Aaron. He is still on the road. Nashville-bound after several weeks of shows in Texas, Ohio, Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Barring any traffic peculiarities, the band anticipates pulling into town with a little over half an hour to spare before sound check.

For anyone unfamiliar with this particular concert series, you’re in luck . This show will be simulcast live on the radio on Lighting 100 or you can stream it live here. If you are in town, you may purchase advance tickets here.

Aaron will be accompanied by his full band including fellow East Nashville guitar slinger Brian Wright. Aaron’s lyrics eloquently and succinctly capture unvarnished, often acerbic observations about anything or anyone he encounters. These are accompanied by incredibly technically proficient guitar licks, that still have a lot of soul. (I’ve found you typically get one or the other and it is a rare treat to enjoy both.) If you like what you hear, Aaron has some exciting announcements coming soon.

3rd & Lindsley | 818 3rd Ave S, Nashville, TN, 37210 | 8:30 p.m. | $15 | 21+
